Privacy
This site sets no cookies, loads no third-party trackers or ads and does not ask you for personal data. To understand which pages and calculators are useful, it keeps a few counts without identifiers, described below.
Controller and contact
The controller is whoever runs the site, identified by name, address and VAT number in the Legal notice. For questions or requests about your data, write to contact@watertally.com.
What we count
- page views: the page address (for the error page only that it was opened, not the address typed), the calculator on it and the site you came from (its domain name only);
- calculator results: whether they come from data you enter or change (and in that case whether the fields were empty or held the example or a link’s values), from the example, from a link with values, or from a calculation brought back by reloading or returning to the page;
- whether the page opened with values in the link and, as an estimate, where the link came from: the same site, another site, a reload or a return to the page, or a source that cannot be determined;
- copies of a calculation’s link, with the origin of the copied result, and whether copying failed and the link was shown for copying by hand;
- clicks to shops: the shop, the product and whether the link was among the calculator’s suggestions (with the origin of the result) or elsewhere on the page.
Each count also records the date and time, added automatically, and the country, which the hosting provider derives from the request.
The counter sends nothing from the German-language pages, nor from any page if your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal.
What we do not collect
We do not record the values you type into the fields, your IP address, your browser’s user agent or any identifier: the counts contain nothing that would identify a person or link two visits.
What stays in your browser
When you use a calculator, the values you enter appear in the page address after the # sign, so you can copy the link or come back to the calculation. Along with the address, the page saves in the tab’s history some details on where the values came from (yours, the example or a link) and a random code that tells one opening of the page from another, to recognise a calculation restored when you reload or return to the page. The values and the code are not sent to the site or to shops: the counter only receives the origin of the result described above. They stay in your browser and are deleted when you close the tab or clear your history.
Why we process these data and on what legal basis
Delivering the pages and security. To show you the site, Cloudflare processes the IP address and technical data of each request on our behalf; the same data are used to limit excessive requests to the counter. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in keeping the site available and protected (Art. 6(1)(f) of the EU General Data Protection Regulation, GDPR).
Counts. We use them only as totals, to understand which pages and calculators are useful. Sending each count does, however, go through Cloudflare’s servers with the IP address, like any request: that step rests on our legitimate interest in improving the site (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We do not combine the counts with other data, not even with the shops’ reports.
Messages. If you write to contact@watertally.com, we use your address and the content of your message only to reply to you, on the basis of our legitimate interest in replying to those who contact us (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Why we do not ask for your consent
The counter reads only a little information from the browser: the domain of the site you came from and whether the page was reloaded or reopened by going back; the calculator saves in your history where the values came from. The guidelines of 10 June 2021 of the Italian data protection authority (Garante per la protezione dei dati personali) on cookies and other tracking tools allow measurement tools without consent when they serve only aggregate statistics for a single site, do not allow a person to be singled out and do not combine the data with other data. The counter is built to meet these conditions: that is why we show no banner. If you prefer not to be counted, turn on the Global Privacy Control signal in your browser, or block this site’s /e address with an extension: the calculators keep working.
Who receives the data
Cloudflare, Inc. hosts the site, keeps the counts and forwards the messages sent to contact@watertally.com. It does so as a processor on our behalf, under its data processing agreement (Data Processing Addendum). For some processing of its own, for example the security of its network, Cloudflare acts as an independent controller, under its own privacy policy: cloudflare.com/privacypolicy. The country in the counts is derived from the technical data of the request; the IP address is not written into the counts.
Messages reach the mailbox of whoever runs the site, on the Zoho Mail service, with the data stored in the European Union. We do not sell data and do not use them for advertising.
Transfers outside the European Union
Cloudflare, Inc. is based in the United States and uses servers in many countries. For transfers to the United States, the European Commission’s adequacy decision of 10 July 2023 on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, in which Cloudflare participates, applies. Should that participation lapse, and for other countries, the standard contractual clauses adopted by the European Commission apply, which are included in the agreement with Cloudflare (Data Processing Addendum).
How long we keep them
The counts are kept for three months in Workers Analytics Engine, a Cloudflare service. Before they expire we may save summaries with totals per period only, without the individual rows, to compare periods. We keep messages for as long as needed to reply, and at most for twelve months from the last exchange. Cloudflare’s privacy policy does not state how long it keeps the technical data it processes for its own purposes.
Your rights
You can ask for access to your personal data, their rectification or erasure, or the restriction of processing, by writing to contact@watertally.com: we reply within one month.
Right to object: you can object at any time, on grounds relating to your particular situation, to processing based on our legitimate interest (Art. 21 GDPR).
The counts contain nothing that would let us recognise you, so we cannot find the ones that concern you: for these data the rights in Articles 15 to 20 GDPR do not apply, unless you give us information that allows us to identify you (Art. 11 GDPR). To avoid being counted you can use the ways described above.
If you believe your personal data are processed in breach of the GDPR, you can lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in particular in the Member State where you habitually live or work or where the alleged infringement took place (Art. 77 GDPR); in Italy this is the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali.
Other
When you follow a link to a shop, the link may contain our affiliate code, so the shop knows you came from this site; from then on that shop’s own privacy policy applies.
You do not need to provide personal data to read the site and use the calculators; without the technical data of each request, however, the pages cannot be delivered to you. The site makes no automated decisions and creates no profiles.
